It's been a rough few months around here. Here is a quick recap: 5 months ago we were excited to find out Richelle was pregnant, Yay! For about 2 months she suffered from severe morning sickness, all day long. Then her back started hurting and she was experiencing shooting pain down her leg. Because both conditions started at the same time, several doctors, physical therapists, and surgeons we went to diagnosed her as having a back problem that was affecting the nerves of her leg. While in the house she was on bed rest, but she was also going to a physical therapist 3 times a week. When she was 13 weeks pregnant they determined she needed an MRI of her spine. When the results came in, they found that her back is fractured, and she has a herniated disc, but nothing in her back should have been affecting her leg. I can't stress enough how bad her leg was, she wasn't walking or moving her leg at all on her own. Putting the pressure from a blanket on her leg was so painful she would cry out in pain. It was really really bad. Finally while at the physical therapy one day her therapist noticed her leg was swollen, and purple. The next morning they checked for a blood clot, it was so bad she was immediately rushed to the hospital. She had a blood clot that started in her back, went around her stomach, and went down the whole length of her leg. It was the worst clot the ultrasound tech had ever seen. Luckily she didn't have to stay in the hospital the 3 weeks they initially predicted, instead they let her go home after 3 days after she promised to give herself shots twice a day in her stomach till the end of the pregnancy. She has been such a trooper with the injections.
After she got home from the hospital she was still on bed rest for a month. Then she started having low blood pressure issues. They found that she has a hiatal hernia in her esophagus, which gives her severe acid reflux. And her back is still fractured. So it's been a tough pregnancy for her.
Currently she is 26 weeks pregnant. She is on limited activity, and has a raging sinus infection (luckily that is being taken care of). Baby is so excited to get here that it is pushing it's little head down as far as it can get.
Sorry this was a long story, we're happy to report that any risk of embolism is now over, it was very scary to have a blood clot and have her going to physical therapy. We were very blessed that she is okay, and they were able to find the clot before anything drastic could happen.
We are due April 28th, but because of the high dose of blood thinners she will most likely be induced a few weeks early (they don't want her going into labor on her own in case they have trouble stopping the bleeding). And we are thrilled to be having a little girl.
Lincoln gives the baby kisses everyday. Though he still wants to crawl all over Richelle's growing tummy, so he doesn't quite get it. We are extremely excited for this pregnancy from hell to be over, and to welcome our little princess home. Just about 3 more months!
